CORDELL A. BROWN

Ready to be creative in the motion graphic field

I received my Associate of Arts degree in Animation Design at Berkeley City College in May 2018. I am currently working as a Front-end production & quality control member at Poster Presentations, I process orders and communicate with customers to resolve any issues (e.g., blurry images, text overlap, Sizing, etc.). I'm also working as a teacher's assistant at Berkeley City College since July 2014 for a multimedia class focusing on Cinema 4D. I have knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and various other 3D programs such as Cinema 4D, Maya, and 3DS Max. I have a passion for environmental design and hard surface modeling. I am able to quickly adapt to company proprietary software and effectively manage my time, prioritize tasks, and work within deadlines with little supervision. I am bilingual in English and German and I'm a self-motivated team player that can work well in a fluid work environment. While studying at Berkeley City College I furthered developed my expertise in motion graphics while participating in a marketing internship for their multimedia department.

  PORTFOLIO

Board Games

For many years, I went to Endgame in Downtown Oakland every Wednesday night and played many games. I also got to meet and talk to many board game creators inspiring me to make my own additions to various games. Some of these games that I enjoyed playing were relatively expensive. I thought, instead of spending the money on a piece, let me try to make it myself. Here are a few examples of what I've done over the years

Anglo-Dutch War
Europe Map

Anglo-Dutch Wars were a series of four naval wars fought between 1652 - 1784.
These wars were mainly fought over trade and overseas colonies, such as Nieuw Amsterdam, or as we call it today New York City.

I recently started collecting and playing Mad for War, a game that recreates naval actions of the Anglo-Dutch wars with miniature ships.
Mad for War is a fun and engaging game. But only covers single Naval actions. Therefore I took it upon myself to create a campaign system and a map for said game.
I used Photoshop and historical map of the time, to accurately recreate a map of 1660 Europe.

Anglo-Dutch War
Colonial Map

Anglo-Dutch wars were truly fought over trade and colonies in the New World and I believed it would be a disservice not to include that.
This also allowed me to use a different program, instead of using Photoshop to create this map, I used an online map-making platform Inkarnate. For me, the biggest difference was the built-in textures. As with the Europe map, I used historical maps, to accurately recreate the East Coast of North America in 1660.
Another big difference between these two maps is the use of a hex grid system on the European map. After playtesting on the first map, it was decided that instead of each ship moving a certain amount of grid squares, ships would use inches instead. Making a cleaner map in my eyes.

Great War at Sea

Great War at Sea (GWAS) is operational and tactical-level naval combat in the period of the early steel battleships and dreadnoughts 1890 to 1930s

I very happy how this turned out, since making both dice roll on ones repeatedly was harder than expected.

MMDI 15A & 515A PROMO 1

Project Tagline

I made this video for Michel Bohbot, who teaches MMDI 15A/B & 515A at Berkeley City College. To help advertise his class online and the Multimedia Arts Department in general during Covid-19. I really enjoyed coming up with the idea for this Animation.

MMDI 15A & 515A PROMO 2

An Artistic Eye

I made this second video for Michel Bohbot, who teaches MMDI 15A/B & 515A at Berkeley City College. To help advertise his class online and Multimedia Arts Department in general during Covid-19.
This was one of the more interesting projects I have due to the dynamics of the marbles interacting with the head and then the shattering of the head, but all told I'm happy with the result.

BATTLE OF THE BAY

Thoughtfully Designed

This project was one that was very personal to me, I am an Oakland A's fan but also root for the San Francisco Giants because my family is spill down the middle. some be A's fans and other Giants fans.

THE MINE

Creatively Crafted

The Mine depicts a stylized design of USS S-3 Class or a ("Navy Yard" type) submarine for the 1920s, as it navigates through a minefield and has a very close call!

MULTIMEDIA ART GOOP

Creatively Crafted

I made as a side project while working on the Promo for MMDI 15A/B & 515/A. First try at a gif like Animation

This Animation was challenging for me because it's 2d and not 3d. the animation is all made After Effects and not made in photoshop as I have done previously.

CORDELL BROWN LOGO IDEA 1

Neon Logo

This is the first in a series of animated logos. This one I made using splines and area light that I made follow the spline the that the neon light tubes. I had a lot of fun making this.

THE SUBWAY

After a long night of gaming with my friend. I was asked what game would I like to see and my answer was a metro 2023 style game. After showing my friend examples of the game I felt inspired to make An example myself. I really enjoy working with the redshift render and made the environment.

FLIGHT OF THE TIN GOOSE

The Ford Trimotor or "Tin Goose" was the first mass-produced airliner and set the standard for safety and comfort in the 1920s and 1930s. Something about the look of the Trimotor really entices me, so went I found a free 3d model at https://open3dmodel.com/3d-models/ford-trimotor-airplane_39324.html I knew, I had to make something with it. But the model I use didn't have a paint scheme I liked, so I made all the making in photoshop from original photos.
